Rising Star Nikki Jean

I caught a fresh new act a few weeks ago on the 'David Letterman' show featuring up-and-coming singer, songwriter "Nikki Jean" playing the piano, surrounded by a splendid 6-piece band.

She sang "How To Unring A Bell", a song from her debut album "Pennies In A Jar" just released two days before. The song had more of an R&B, Pop feel to it as opposed earlier hip-hop success, with a clear, clean melody and lyrics to match Nikki's killer-white smile and mysterious, dark skinned beauty!

With striking looks and a voice even easier to listen too, as 'Letterman's impression seemed to also imply, Nikki actually describes her over-all ambitions and dreams a bit differently!

Born 'Nicholle Jean Leary' 27-years ago in St. Paul, Minnesota, her concept has always been to write with the greatest living American song writers, the lyrical craft becoming her life long passion since she was 5-years old, and having watched 'Irving Berlin's' 100th birthday celebration on television.

What's more, her most important lesson learned, she states, is that..."there are no short cuts, because the hours, days, and weeks are frequently laid at the alter of song writing".

Thus far her hard work seems to be paying off, because, despite her limited working resume, Nikki's co-writtin with lots of top songwriters including, 'Paul Williams', 'Lamont Dozier', 'Barry Mann', 'Burt Bacharach', 'Carol Bayer Sager', 'Alan Bergman', 'Charles Fox', and 'Jimmy Webb' among others!

Nikki broke onto the music scene writing and singing for 'Nouveau Riche', an indie/hip-hop band from Philadelphia, before co-writing and singing with Lupe Fiasco on his second album "Cool".

She also wrote and recorded "Five Alarm Fire" a hit track released by DJ Deckstream, before traveling to Los Angeles, California to record one of 'Sting's' hits "Be Still My Beating Heart" with the Randy Watson Experience on Rewind5.

Nikki was also part of the 5-month 'Glow In The Dark' tour a few years back in 2008 with 'Kanye West', 'Lupe Fiasco', 'Rihanna', and 'N,E.R.D., before resuming another life-long passion...producing albums.

This brand new one "Pennies In A Jar" is off an running with the lead single called "Steel And Feathers(Don't Ever)" which was co-writtin by 'Bob Dylan", and also contains the track 'Million Star Motel" featuring the rapping of 'Lupe Fiasco" and 'Black Thought".

Nikki adds to her versatility as an actress, performing in the award winning independant film "On The Outs' released in 2004, and is extremely active making videos on YouTubevia "nikkijeanproject's Channel" where she's won several awards as one of that web site's most frequently viewed song artists.

So, if you happen to miss her debut on 'David Letterman', she's easy to find on the internet, and will, no doubt, be easy to listen to as well on Streetwise Radio...as 'Nikki Jean's' star seems to be on the rise!
